At the helm of a family-owned holding with a turnover of €85 million, Azzurra Morelli is a testament to leadership driven by instinct and passion. From the company’s headquarters in Empoli, Azzurra, alongside her brother Giampaolo, continues to uphold the legacy of craftsmanship in the luxury leather sector that their father, Bruno, started 45 years ago.
Today, Pellemoda boasts 300 employees, 75% of whom are women, and stands at the forefront of sustainable innovation. The company proudly introduced the world’s first certified biodegradable and compostable leather, processed with a molecule derived from olives—a breakthrough in the industry.
As Azzurra proudly announces the incorporation of the third, all-female generation into the business, she reflects on the importance of learning and mastery passed down through hands-on experience. To foster this tradition, she is considering the establishment of an internal Academy to ensure that the art and skill of leather craftsmanship endure.
Holding the significant role of Vice President at Confindustria Florence, Azzurra is currently the only woman on its executive board. Her advice to young women is to “follow your instinct and passion,” embodying the leadership qualities that have marked her family’s successful journey in the luxury market.
